Go faster.

The faster you're going, the more forward momentum you have. So when you lift the bike into the air, you're going to keep moving forward at the same speed (Well, slightly slower).

Don't believe me? Lay a book on the ground. Roll forward towards it VERY slowly, and try to jump across it. Now do it again, and this time ride fast. You'll also notice you won't have to jump as high to clear it at a higher speed.
