Well, maybe just one question really, but does anyone have a breakdown for the weight of each part on an '08 DK General Lee 20"? Some parts have a generic description on every site I've looked on, so I can't look them up easily. Even the DK site doesn't help. I want to lighten things up a bit. And I don't want to rip my bike apart to get the weights since I'm riding it when I get a chance, and I don't have the time to yet.

Any help would be great.

to be HONEST its a crapy bike and not worth working on
it doesnt have a full cromo frame or sealed crank
you will have to replace almost everything to get it lighter

i doubt you're going to find a complete breakdown. the frame will be the heaviest thing. to be honest, you need to man up... it's not that heavy.

If your only spending 300 or so on a complete your least worry is the weight, try the components like cranks, hubs, rims, you know. the essentials!

Compared to what I used to ride, it's about 8-10 pounds heavier.

then you're going to get real strong huh? i'm sure the old lady will love your newly aquired muscles! :D

i just started getting into riding again this summer. the bike i got is substantially heavier than the bike i had then but i'm not complaining. then again, the bike i had then wouldn't even come close to holding up to what i have now. weight for strength.

well, if you just want to make it a bit lighter i guess we need to know what its got on it now
is it full stock or anything diff. last time i looked it has 48s(heavy) unsealed crank(heavy and crappy)
steal seat post(very heavy) i had one not too long ago and once i got the crank and seat post changed it got a good big lighter and looked better too. the bars and forks arent THAT heavy to be honest. a good idea is to get a cheap fit flow wheelset and a new crank, powerbites are about $100 now days and are very nice. you will lose some good weight and not spend too much...i guess. but honestly for the price or doing anything meaningful to that bike you can buy something else better and lighter and stronger. one of the big parts of making a bike like that not so heavy is replacing everything. its just a fact of biking. get something good to start with or deal with what you have. you dont buy an escort and try to make race car.

this one? http://www.danscomp.com/101063.php?cat=BIKES

the frame is half chromoly tubes and half hi-tensile steel, so the frame is probably heavy. the fork is also half steel, so that must be very heavy. the bars are probably straight-guage steel and they are small, so some butted bars would be a lot lighter. the stem looks pretty thick, so a machined-out stem would save a bit of weight. the seatpost is probably just a generic steel one so you can cut it down or get a nice aluminum seatpost.

You shouldn't really worry about weight too much on your first bike since your just going to get buffer with a heavier bike. However that bike looks a bit weak and all so I would save up.
