[Article] Protect your Investment.
I dont know how much you have spent on your bike, but I spent a grand on mine. Maybe you've spent 2 grand. Maybe you've spent 2 hundred. It doesn't matter. You have spent money and time on your bike. It deserves to be protected.
Here are a few ideas to help you protect your investment.
1. Clean your bike. Not every time you ride. Just clean it when it gets dirty. dont let it keep getting grimeyer just clean it.
2. Wax your bike. Wax helps repel water. No one wants a rusty bike.
3. Don't leave your bike outside when it is wet/damp out (its ok to ride your bike and get it a little wet).
4. If you bike gets wet, dry it off. As soon as you get home. Again, no one wants a rusty bike.
5. Never, ever leave your bike unlocked outside. Even if you are running into a gas station to get a soda, or take a piss. If you have to leave it unlocked, have a friend watch it for you. Dont even leave it for one minute if its out of your sight.
6. Dont throw your bike. We all do it. Just try to hold back the urge to throw it.
7. Keep your bike lubricated. Lube the chain, headset, bottom bracket, and hubs regularly.
8. If something is bent, or is in need of replacement, dont delay. Buy a new one. dont try to fix something that wont be correct, or as strong after you 'fix' it. One screwed up part can cause damage to the rest of your bike, and/or yourself.
9. Dont let people you dont know, or barely know ride your bike. It is a bad idea in general. It will either end up stolen, or crashed.
10. Most of all, ride your bike and have fun - dont spend so much time worrying about your bike getting dirty or wet or stolen that you loose the fun in going out riding. Just be try and be careful.
I know some, if not all, of the above was obvious, but try and follow them. for your bike's and money's sake.Last edited by nutsgeezer; 04-05-2007 at 04:13 PM.
