Two kids on my street used to use them 24/7.

Oooh, I love the smell of the fuel as it burns.

personaly i like buggies. If i would get one i would get a buggie. I have a team losi XX form like 93' lol. I one a few trophies with that. I guess if you want to win you dont have to be fast....just lucky.

Get the Savage 21...it has a better engine and is wayy fast. Yuou could go to HPI.com and check out the other savages there are as well as a few other RCs...beftore biking I was wayy into RC and have a ton of shit... Still have both my carsa nd an Electric Truck. IF you're barely getting into it, I suggest a electric...no doubt they are pretty fast...and easier to maintain, but nitros take more time you need glow plugs, glow plug ignitor, batterybox for the receiver, nitro fuel, and you need after run oil, as well as cleaning it after each run or it'll turn to shit. I suggest electric with a Brushless system...they hit speeds of over 55mph easily...Mamba makes the best RC brushless systems.

EDIT: In addition, I know you'll break some parts...NITRO parts cost ass loads more than electric...
