Anyone have any clue what kind of money I could charge for my Schwinn Predator? it's a 1988 Predator Free Form BG Mag, it's almost all original, except for tires, seat, brakes, and brake leaver. It's in pretty good shape, could use a good scrub down.

Unfortunatly those aren't the most sought after Schwinn Predators. I think if you got $100 (USD) for it, it would be on the higher side of average. The mag version is a little less common, but they weren't really "high end" bikes for that era, so it's hard to find people that want them. It is really nice though!!

Keep an eye on this one and see what happens. It may give you an idea of the value. This one is a model above yours, it's the FreeForm Pro...

If it wasn't worth much new it won't be worth much when its old either.

As an example in Australia a 1980 team Mongoose cost around $500 new ($350-$400 for a Super Goose, and about $275 for a mongoose). A 1980 Cook Bros frame /Fork / Bars cost around $350....and so on.

A Speedwell Maxi Cost around $175 and a Speedwell SuperMax cost about $260 (just a little less than a standard Mongoose.

Assuming a modest return of 5% per annum over 30 years $500 in 1980 is roughly equivalent to $2060 in todays terms.

Hence par for the course would be when an old school bike is sold today for 4 times or better its price when it was new.

This is very feasible for the classic 80's bikes like Cook Bros. Redlines, CW, Robinsons, Mongooses, and so on... but highly unlikely for the less desirable bikes like Speedwell Maxis etc...

However at the end of the day many of us are buying a piece of our past and are often more than willing to pay too much.
