View Full Version : [HowTo] Never have Punctures
Iceless
07-07-2007, 09:45 PM
So, This is basiclly a secret of mine where i haven't had a puncture in like i don't know 6-7 Months, Now i know you'l think i'm crazy but it really does work Trust me
Now i air high right, so of course il have the odd hang up, which will burst the back tyre, but not since iv'e done this
Take off your Tyre and innertube so you can see the rimtape and the rim,
Now get some INSULATING TAPE And Rap it around the rim 2 or 3 times!
Slap on your tube and tyre pump it up to 10 psi less than the maxium, and START RIDING!
Really you must think i'm stupid, but in all trust, trust me!

does it really work, i mean i did a shite 180 today on flat at like 100mph and i got a pinch flat puncture. Would it resolve that?

yo there's another method to not popping yo wheels...my teacher told me dis b4 he went...i fink it went like dis, since he did trials his tires where pretty fat and he said to me that he stuck a thinner light tire underneath the chunky one and the innertube was under that..and he never EVER had punctures and he was doing like 6metre+ drops and his tire didnt pop...holla!

that does work i did it for ages. but it does make the wheels quite a considerable amount heavier.

just like a mr.tuffy liner. and any tape willl help when u run high pressure rather than the cheap rubber ones
fitbike61
07-08-2007, 12:35 AM
this happens when u run low psi with a khe tire overtime. (any tire really overtime does this)
20-30 buck tire or a 2 buck tube?

There won't a complete way to stop getting punctures. Only ways which "seem" to work, what about pinch flats?
manulin matty C
07-08-2007, 12:40 AM
ya but it also looks like the side wall was grinded against something from riding
fitbike61
07-08-2007, 12:50 AM
no grinding. low pressure will cause the rim to just stampede right over every inch of sidewall for as many rotations as u go.
manulin matty C
07-08-2007, 01:30 AM
ya but that is riden at like just enough to keep the tire seated

get thick tube and 2 primo comet tire pump up to 110psi
then ur good to go i been running that for months now i havnt had flat yet

me too. i don't have a puncture for like 6 months or so and i think is for these:
first: i use a rim that have the spokes in the inside( i mean far from the tube)
second: odyssey rim strip
third: ruben tires
6 months riding street, over glass and everything and nothing have happened

hmm.. what if i already have my tires 30psi under?
fitbike61
07-08-2007, 04:17 AM
^thats really bad. is the tire really "mushy"? u should ride it like rock hard. gets more speed and less pinch flats or any flats.
manulin matty C
07-08-2007, 04:25 AM
u should ride atleast ride 60psi for bmx. and run rim tape. dont run just a cheap rubber rim strip. I tape over my rubber one so I can still take it off kinda easilyand dont have the resido on the rim.
does it really work, i mean i did a shite 180 today on flat at like 100mph and i got a pinch flat puncture. Would it resolve that?
Put some talc in your tire. This way if the tire pinches the tube, the tube can slide out of the pinch, instead of being gripped by the tire and bam, pinch flat.

the trick is to get an old tire cut off the sidewalls stick it in your tire then put in the tube, then put some tape over the rim strip then put your tire on and you goood as gold

but you are going to add some innecesary weight

who ****ing cares lol wats a lil weight going to do, it will save you having to repair your tubes every time and replacing them.
Would you rather wasting time fixing your tires = less weight
or have weight and ride all day n night long and have fun with no time wasting changing repairing tubes

i had a puncture today, after six months... nothing last forever!!
but that's because there was a strike in my country and the street were full of glass
anyway, that sucks

my friend always gets flats.
might have to tell him about this. (if it really works)

Here is FACT
You CAN NOT stop flats 100% unless you run a solid tube like the ones at Walmart...sooner or later the tube or tire wear and it gets a flat.
HOWEVER, you can help prevent them in many ways.
1- wax in the rim if you have recessed spokes. harded for them to poke through that
2- duck tape as a rim strip. 3 layers or so.
3- tire liners or ducttape on the inside of the tire. If tape, use 3-5 complete rotations. that stops alot.
4- an old tube OVER the new tube. Just cut off the valve and cut a slit in the tube.
5- always use talk, baby powder even flower(cooking) will do. It will keep the tube from sticking to the tire so it won't tear it up as fast
6- ALWAYS run enough air pressure. Too little is asking for a flat.
Thats the top 6 I have used for over 10yrs...but even at that I still go through afew tubes a year.
Also fill your tires in sages. put in say 20PSI and bounce it and spin it, then say 40 and repeat. This allows the tube to seat very well in the tire. At times you may not see it bunched up go to fill it and have a buldge in one area...and yea it will blow out.

WTF BRO?!!??!?!? Now I understand his way of talking is very hard to read and also a bit of an infraction to the forum rules. But you 'myfriend' are an idiot for connecting his stupid talk, to black people. (altho he is black, it has nothing to do with my point.) That is the most racist thing I have hear outta anyone on this forum and I'm really offended. Now i might be a little racily sensative here, but I just don't think it's right what you said. Do i go around telling people with perfect grammar they are such a cracker with their whiteboy talk??? No! It has nothing to do with their color!
You sir are a F.UCKIn! RACIST!
*Expect lots of bashing from me on any thread you post on.*

i've never had a puncture that i know of on a bmx. i get dozens of pinch flats but thats different. no ammount of baby powder or duct tape is going to fix that. its simple. air up your tires. get high psi tires. and pray..

sounds good but whats insulating tape? what do u use it for?
Most people call it electrical tape. I use it,2 layers, one covers the spoke and on the left, and the other layer covers the spokes and on the right, and then another layer right down the middle...oh yeah, thats 3 layers...
Also if you run super thick tires it helps, but I want to ditch mine very soon

I got ripped to shit for saying this before but cut open another tube and wrap it round the one you pump then put some talc in between I weigh 16 stone and roll 100psi and I haven't had a flat in months.

The 100% way not to get a puncture is not to ride your bike!!!!

take a popped tube, cut the valve off and line it inside your tire. extra protection. works good

make sure u run a rim strip under the tape..if u dont then the nipples/spoke threads get all sticky..nd it sucks when tryin 2 relace or true ur rim..and is their any correlation between air pressure aid bent rims?does higher pressure mean ur rim is more likely 2 bend??y do i see ppl like edwin nd rone wit thier pressure disgustingly low?lol (fitlife)

erm....i am "NEGRO" , and anyhoo its quicker and ppl understand so er yeh...
besides that i tried the method of cutting sidewalls of tyre and sticking under your innertube but on top of your normal tyre and honestly all of you who say "It adds weight blah blah blah".....it really doesnt.....cut it properly(sides and little bit of tread, ur left with roughly about 5-6cm width) well er i stuck it on and theres nothing really any different, still feels the same, not any heavier or any lighter....does feel a little bit more hard, but it feels good:hmm:. well hope this helps anyone..who really wanted any answers.holla!

yah- we used to do that tire-within-a-tire trick in the early days of mountain biking. pretty secure setup, but oh the rotational weight! but if that's not critical to your riding, and you flat a lot... then it might just solve your problems.

Thats all well and good for no pinch flats and stuff but it won't help if you hit glass or something?

Put talcon powder or flour between your tyre and innertube, it stops them sticking to each other and helps stop pinch punctures, found it on the g-psort website and it seems to have worked.
