Well first of all i thought i would to something special for my 1500th post so here we go.

Alright I have had a few people ask me how they could go about building their own trampoline bike. So I decided that it would be a good idea to write this how-to.

Now to actually explain how to do it.

Step #1:
Find an old frame, some forks, a headset, a stem, handlebars, seat, seatpost, and seatpost clamp.
Those are the only parts you'll need to build the trampoline bike.
But you will also need some duct tape, and anything that will soften up the bike. [e.g. foam, bubble wrap, towels, or anything else you may have laying about.]

Step #2:
Now that you have all the materials you'll need, you can get started building. So to start, you need to assemble the bike of course. Then you'll need to smash/bend the dropouts off the forks, and then fold the dropouts on the frame inwards 90*. [That is optional...those things just help with protecting the trampoline from getting punctured]

Step #3:
Now you'll need the foam/towels/whatever. Use it to completely cover the bottom of the fork legs, and obviously use duct tape to hold it on. Now you use the rest of the foam to cover up the whole chainstay/dropout/bb area.
Caution: Make sure to use a LOT of foam on the rear end, just to be really safe.

Step #4: [Optional]
You can now use the left over foam to cover the stem and bar ends...that is only if you feel you need to be really careful about puncturing the trampoline.

Step #5:
Run to the trampoline and throw the bike on. Now get on and see what you can do.

You have now finished your trampoline bike.

Now i just want to say that you shouldn't be scared the trampoline will puncture....as long as you do it right it will be perfectly fine.

HAVE FUN!

Nice how-to thanks

Why do you need a seat though?

you bounce with your feet and the bottom of the bike hitting the trampoline at the same time. so you need a seat for when you "double-bounce" the bike [when your feet land just before it, then the bike gets bounced when your feet come up and it gives you anal.

So all you would take off is the wheels and brakes?

If you watch Nitro Circus 2? I think it's 2, either that or 3. Travis Pastrana and his buddys have a trampoline built into the ground and specifically lined for it, pretty sick. It's ground level with the grass. SICK imo.

Nice guide.

matt beringer has one of those at his house^
and on his normal bike he jumped onto it and did a frontflip off to flat. thought that was sick.

the only reason we have no cranks is because we aren't aloud. it must be super safe, to not cut the tramp. or we can't have it at all.

Try it with the wheels and pedals on and see how many times you can bounce without taking your feet off the pedals and try to get the two tyres hitting the tramp at the same time, its a lot harder than you think but good for balance.

I agree with minitrix, It doesn't make you a pussy though, but when I started doing it long before this article it was to practice tricks that I couldn't land otherwise so i got some old plastic pedals an wieghted them with cardboard so I had something to try and get my feet back to when I landed.

That's a nice how-to, but I've always had a problem with what some people call a tramp-bike.
How can you count it as a bike when it has no cranks or pedals? It takes no skill to do tricks like tailwhips or barspins, or any tricks for that matter.
It's easy to just throw around a frame and claim you can do a trick, but in truth, you haven't. You've just held a bike frame, bars, and forks above your head and SAID you can do a superman seat-grab. It takes alot more skill to pull your feet off a bike, tailwhip it, then put your feet back on the pedals and continue bouncing.
Just remove the sprocket then put the cranks back on, then put some tape between the frame and the cranks so they can't move.

that thing looks awesome, but with all the pads on it, does it weigh as much as a normal bike?

i don't care how easy it is. it just never get's boring. and you can do tricks that are challenging. ex. tripple whips.
or things no one thinks of like no-fot can inverts.

yea i made one with cranks and stuff still on and its more fun cause it feels alot likea real bike we just used worn down pedals with minimal to no pins left but still had alittle grip...or just put griptape on pedals you dont need crazy grip its only a tramp but it feels alot more real like without cranks its just jumping on a tramp while holding a bike..
