Alright I say learn without brakes, as in my opinion its much easier because its smoother and you use no pedal power to keep you going. It took me like 2 weeks to get them dialled so I'll try to help you.
1-first roll up the quarter/bank/whatever your going to fakie off
2-when your as high as your gonna go do a little bunnyhop (this will give you more speed making it easier to slide out of fakie and it helps you keep your balance)
3-right when you land the hop begin pedalling backwards(not real fast just as fast as your bike makes you(you have to be in control) learn to pedal backyard good!)
4- now your ready to get out of it
4a-once completely centered over the bike and still pedalling backwards turn your bars about 45 degrees the opposite way you want to turn out.(i.e. if you want to turn out the left turn your bars 45 degrees to the right which should turn the front of bike and put you closer to the side you want to turn out to) KEEP PEDALLING BACKWARDS
4b-now lean back and put your butt over the back wheel like a manual and while still PEDALLING BACKWARDS now quickly turn you wheel the direction you want to turn out to and it will slide around(only if your leaning back and you keep PEDALLING BACKWARD.
troubleshooting
the hardest part off learning this for me was the fact that you have to keep pedalling backward until you have slid all the way around .
**remember to lean back***
This is how I learned hope it helps :]
heres a how-to vid I made
http://www.vimeo.com/clip:214546
and one more thing to remember is that if you ride right foot forward and turn to the left then you should start the slider when your right foot is just about at the top of the crank thing (when your cranks are vertical and your right foot is on top) that way your left leg will be out of the way when you try to slide
and if you ride left forward and turn to the right then do the opposite of what it says above
and if your goofy then just try to keep your leg out of the way.

ya no problem i had problems to but i had to figure out what to do myself but i think it made me better and now i can explain better for people
and one more thing to remember is that if you ride right foot forward and turn to the left then you should start the slider when your right foot is just about at the top of the crank thing(idk when your cranks are vertical and your right foot is on top) that way your left leg will be out of the way when you try to slide

No. There is no need for doing it with brakes. AND it looks a lot uglier with brakes.

When I do sliders I don't really turn the bars the opposite way first, I just turn them. And I don't use pedal pressure/brakes either.

the faster u go, the easier the slider is once u know how to do them. sliders are so fun once u get em down.

im so used to half cabing, when i turn my bars i flip backwards or usualy fall over on my side, is this normal?

^sliders are wayy different from halfcabs. thats probably why i can only do sliders most of the time. its a completely different feeling than cabs.

^^^ ya i slider all the time as well and i just got my new ruben tire like two weeks ago and its already showing wear

^ive had my khe for a couple weeks (only ridden for 1 week due to injuries) and its smooth street tread pumped up to rock hardness sliders like butter! before i used to have a ruben and it wasnt nearly as smoothe. so sliders also depend on what kind of tire u have.

I have a problem that when i turn my bars the second time , my tires screech and i skid to a halt instead of turning.
this is because u need to keep pedaling backwards until u are completely turned a round

Definitely a good how-to. As a rider who is just getting "back into things" after four or five yaers this is something that most people didn't do when I rode. Looking forward to working on making these second nature to me instead of using my breaks.

thanks mate, I posted up a how to question last night about fakie sliding, and was saying that i can fakie back, slide roudn abit but not the full way. I asked if you need to keep pedalling backwards until your the whole way roudn as im stuck i nthe habit of pedaling forward for the normal fakie which lifts your front wheel. A few people left comments but never answered the pedalling question, and just told me how to do it (which i already know, jsut cant yet). You just answer this question for meand ill be getting it dialed starting tonight and over the next few days. Any tips for pedaling backward while turning, i dont know why but i find it really hard because of the habit of forwards pedalling. other than JUST DO IT (obviously)

well at first it's going to be very hard cause you are so used to using pedal pressure.
Just try to lean back and keep your ass over the back wheel like in a manual. It's easier to keep on pedaling backward when you have your weight back.
Keep trying and they will come man! Glad i could help!
When I slider, I 180, roll backwards for a bit then turn my bars about 140 degree's (almost xup) and as im coming round slowly bring them back to normal and kinda lean my bike similar to a table unitl I come round. (This is with a coaster though!)
