Half Cabs off Ledges written by Dagger Dan.

I’ve been able to do these for quite a while now but are a really cool trick to do because you can do them on anything really. They can lead to some really cool fakie tricks and combos.

Going backwards has become a fashion now because of people like Bruce Crisman, Ian Schwartz etc and people with cassettes like Chase Dehart and Smoker Dave.

So that’s why I did this how to, my basis being that it would appeal to a lot of people. Let’s see anyway.

Right, to half cab off ledges/stairs you need to be able to half cab, duh. Ill briefly explain this.
First you get yourself into a fakie then, as you are back pedalling wait till your pedals are level and in the position that you ride in ie: lff or rff.

Use the chain tension to bring the front of the bike up and look over your shoulder until you reach about 90 degrees.

Here you need to keep looking over your shoulder and tuck the back wheel up behind you so that your bike is completely off the floor.

After this point the rest of your bike should follow around with you and then you will land straight.

Off a ledge:

You need to learn to look over your shoulder when going back wards because you need to be able to spot the edge of the drop that you are hopping off so you don’t hop to early or too late. If you hop too late you will fall off the ledge backwards which obviously is a bad thing. If you hop too early you can hang up back wheel which I have done a few times and it is really really really bad cus u smash your knees and go over the bars which sucks.

1. You need to go at a medium pace for a ledge around walking speed or a bit faster (depends on how fast you walk).

2. Do the same again except when you are doing it off a ledge, you need to practice spotting the ledge by using a line or a crack in the floor, this lets you get used to what i call prep cranking. Prep cranking is an extra quick crank back to realign your pedals because the length of your fakie can mean that when you reach the edge your cranks are in the wrong position. Just before you reach the edge do a prep crank and hop whilst your pedals are level.

2. because you are doing it off a ledge you don’t need to spin so hard because due to the longer drop you have more time to spin so you will over rotate which hurts your wrists and your face if you hit it on an old mans foot.

3. remember to spot your landing and line your bike up and all should go well unless you have no face.

gonna practice that soon this week but i have the problem of wen i do them i use pedal pressure and i hop but in the middle of the hop i literly pedal forwards in mid air as well, and it messes me up all the time

with fullcabs you gotta turn into the pivot well quick and when the pivot gets to around 180 just try and hop another hop 180

i pivot 180 but then i can't just pop again, how do you have to stay in that pivot? arms straight? legs crouched and then after 180 pull to your chest?... i just pivot and argh makes me kill myself tried them a couple of days last week

anyway if i hop earlier i can get almost 270, i mean without 180 pivot.. i think you understand what i said
