so i was out riding and my wrist started to hurt. hurt enough i could barely air a quarter, but everything else was fine.
when i just leave my wrist flat its fine, i can bend it up and down, but it makes a grinding popping noise, moreso grinding every once in awhile.
it hurts on the right side of my right wrist, when i twist my wrist fully, it hurts right where that bone sticks out ontop outside of wrist
it just hurts to twist my wrist.
does anyone know if i sprained it? i know if it was broken or fractured it would hurt to move it any amount and be swollen.
is this something that i should go to a doctor for and spend more hospital bill, or just sleep on it and hope its a muscle thats sore?

if its broken or fractured you couldnt move it at all without major pain, check it and look for any bruising..thats a sign of fracture/broken bones. if there isnt anything else..give it another day and put a wrap on it and soak it in epsom salt later
Do you guys have to pay to see a doctor in the states? 'cos that's my advice, see a doctor. Your health isn't something to muck around with.

theres no bruising, ive broken both wrists twice, well fractured/broken.
idk if its sprained or not, feels like it.
due to all the illegal immegrants without insurance getting free hospital visits, to make the money back they loose, the hospital charges US more $$ for a hospital stay, when i blacked out, it cost $800 for a ride in an ambulance... my grandma had to pay $2000 to stay at the hospital for a day.... my dad had to pay $400 out of his pocket for a leg brace that flows cold water through it and the water jug... he didnt get to keep either one....
so going in to get my wrist checked out would cost us about $100 + insurance to find out, oh you just over worked the muscle or, you pulled a muscle, ice it and go to bed
Jeez! That's steep :/ No wonder so many of you guys post threads like this.
Ambulances cost money here too (unless you are unemployed or a low income earner), but a visit to the GP is reimbursed by the government (called bulk-billing). In fact, you never even pay yourself, the govt. pays the doctor directly. We are an island though, so illegal aliens aren't as much of an issue as for you chaps. That could be why.
Sorry to digress...

do you know the heal time on a sprained wrist?

depending on how well you treat it..any time between six days to two weeks, soak it every night and if your just watching tv soak it then too in epsom salt with hot water (not to hot)..also when you go to sleep wrap it up so that you dont bend it anymore..basically baby the living hell out of that untill you feel no pain

R.I.C.E buddy, Rest Ice Compression and Elevate
Rest it, thats means use the other hand ;)
Ice it 20 mins on 20mins off repeat for about 1hr or 2
Compress, wrap it up in a bandage firmly (not too tight and not too loose)
Elevation, reduces swelling. most effective when the injured area is raised above the level of your heart.
then after the first day of Rice the next day you apply heat and keep it wraped in a bandage. if by the 3rd day its still sore get it checked out. but if its not and the swelling has gone down start with some simple strecthing excersise a good one is to get a tennis ball and squeeze it and hold for 3 secs then repeat then gradually increase the holding time 3sec ,5secs 8 secs 10secs. keep doing it till you feel its good. keep it wrapped up aswell till you feel its good aswell but dont forget for a couple of hours a day take the bandage of for a lil bit
Hope it gets better so you can get back out and ride

I just messed up my wrist riding last night, I can't tell if its broken or just sprained. There isn't bruising or swelling, but it hurts if I move it pretty much any direction... Not trying to thread jack either, just didn't feel the need to post another seperate post. Someone give me their opinion please.. I have never broken anything before, so I don't really know how it feels...

uh when it happend did you feel a sharp pain or numbness? if so its most likely broken. if not its a bad sprain and i suggest just keeping it chill

No not a sharp pain, and not numness, it hurt, and a little numb... It still isn't swallon or bruised so I think thats a good sign, but it is feeling stiffer, and hurts more today...tonight.. This morning it didn't feel as bad. Im going to see how it feels tomorrow, and then depending on that, Ima get it checked out...

Icing yes, and I wrapped it for a little bit.
Today, it is alot better! Still hurts, but I have much more movement in it, and it doesn't hurt as much, so I think it is just tweaked really bad, it has no bruising or swelling, which are good signs! Should be back on the bike pretty quickly :)! Thank god.

when i broke my wrist, i heard it go like "CLACK!"
and then i just didn't know it was broken until my dad saw how bruised up it was. we went to a doctor and they took xrays. yep it was broken.
so it didn't really hurt when i broke mine. i thought it was a sprain or something.
good thing my insurance took care of the whole bill, we didn't have to pay a penny :)

Mines not broken, there is no swelling, at least nothing noticable... Its still soar, but Im just going to keep icing it and do the tennis ball excersise... If it still hurts in a week I will go to the doctors and get some x-rays..its just really time consuming.

its been a week, wrist still hurts a small trace when i twist my wrist all the way around like you do when your swinging something above your head.
still pops, but it used to pop before just not as loud.
im taking everything easy, havnt aired huge since then, just been doing tiretaps as those are the only thing that never hurt

Good news, I rode all day yesturday. At first it hurt like heck, but then I rode threw the pain and I didn't notice it. Woke up this morning, and I thought it would hurt bad, but it is actually feeling the best it has felt since the injury... So I am pretty glad, I didn't ride that great yesturday, but I think it paid off, because my wrist feels alot better!

yeah imho a bad sprain hurts more than a simple fracture i fell off the bus a few months ago and i tore a load of ligaments that hurt more that a compound fracture of the shin...... just exersize it if you let it go stiff it could take u to 8months to fully heal.......thats what my doc said..
