Hello,
Diagnosis
The first thing you should know is that: Barspin's are really easy.
I mean think about it, all you have to is keep your legs straight throw you bars with one hand and catch with the other hand. [simple]
What may be the biggest problem, is your bike. If you have a slammed seat this will give you a big disadvantage, why? because you dont have a guide. What I mean by 'guide' is when your seat is slammed you don't have anything to grip onto or to help keep you legs straight.
Set-Up
Seat
Like I said slammed seat = no good. Get a seat post and stick it back in, stand on your pedals parallel to see where you have to raise the seat. You want to be able to pinch the seat with your knees, not below the kness or above but with the knees.
Handle Bars
Make sure the handle bars are parallel to the forks, make sure the width of the handle bars are the right size - Check here (http://www.bicycling.com/article/1,6610,s1-5-28-1056-1,00.html)
Pegs
You may find that if you have big feet and big pegs - they hit so to begin with take your pegs of (or at lease your front pegs).
thats it
The Trick
Ok, first of all jump on your bike and pinch the seat with you knees and lift up (like a manual but not manualing), get used to pinching your seat.
Halfspin - halfspinning gains confidence with throwing and letting go of the handlebars. These are very easy, halfspinning requires a little throw. Stand between the bike with your feet on the ground and throw the handlebars enough to get a halfspin so you know how hard to throw the handle bars then you can start.
Ride at a slow pace (almost stopping), pinch you seat lift and throw handlebars grab/catch the handlebar with opposite hand to which you through.
Fullspin/barspin
Once your able to half spin at a moderate speed you are ready for the fullspin/barspin.
Before you start you should know: If you bail you wont get hurt ... alot.
If you throw your handlebars and they go 270 instead of 360 your leading foot should automatically get off the bike leaving your body safe and you bar ends scratched. Also remember to pinch that seat and keep you legs straight or else you will cry-laughing (you know like when you hit you funny bone, it hurts but it also tickles).
on with the trick ...
Stand between the bike again lift the front end up and this time throw your handlebars harder and faster, get a feel for it throw with one arm catch with the other ... etc.
Get on your bike, slow down, pinch (straight legs/knees back), lift and throw ...
now if you read all that ^ you probably fell or hit your knee and you got a bit of bruise, now don't be discouraged this happens to everyone just get back up and try again.
Trouble shooting
[1] - hit your knees:
a) your legs aren't straight, get your camera, phone camera friends camera what ever and film your self check you legs out if there not stright, strighten then, if they are ...
b) cut your bars 1/2 an inch or just check here (http://www.bicycling.com/article/1,6610,s1-5-28-1056-1,00.html).
[2] - underspinning:
throw harder
[3] - overspinning:
calm down
[4] - any over problem:
your wussing out
