Intro
So your tires are bald eh? Or maybe it's just covered with glass. Either way you probaly opened this thread to learn about dem things dat go on dose wheels. First off There are many differents styles of tires. There are Street, park, and dirt tires. Dirt tires have knobs on them to get more grip in the, you guessed it dirt! Street tires are more slick to get grip on those walls and ledges. Most riders use a real big beefy dirt tire up front, and a skinny street tire in the rear. But it's all personal preference you see. I ride all street so I just have a fat 2.10 maxxis miracle in the front, and a skinny 1.95 animal glh in the back. The reason you want a wider tire in the front is for more control. I put a street tire on the back for wallrides mainly, and also for the fact it has the thicker sidewall and it only really rubs hard when you do a feeble grind.
PSI's
There is different PSI's, PSI stands for "pounds per square inch". So if you tires are pumped up to 40 PSI there are 40 pounds of pressure per every square inch of tire. So your tire is gonna feel more like a rock at 80 PSI and more like a marshmallow at 40. But there is a limit you can pump your tire up to. Most dirt tires only go up to 60-65, street tires range from about 80-110 psi. The higher your tire is pumped up the less rolling resistence you have. Basically the less your tire touches the ground. I would recommend always riding even pressure. If your a dirt rider pump that shit up to like 65 in the back and 60 in the front. If you like flowing and riding street i would pump it up to 80-100. I noticed the higher psi you ride the less you get flats.
Tire widths, and "sidewalls"
Along with different styles of tires and PSI ratings there are different tire widths. Tires come in(inches)
1.85, 1.95, 2.0, 2.10. And even bigger, The wider your tire is the more traction you get. Also the slower you go because of more rolling resistance.
As you can see the red line is the width of the tire. And the blue line is CLEARLY pointing that out. But of course the size of your rim makes a difference. The wider your rim is the more the tire can spread out. If you have a 20x1.75 rim your 1.95 tire is only going to spread out to like a 1.85. So a single wall would let your tire not spread out as much as compared to a double or triple. Thats why its always such a bitch to get that glh off of your hazard triple wall.
The sidewall or "seam" on your tire is also important to.
Those red arrows are pointing to your sidewalls.
If you ride a lot of street you are going to want a thicker sidewall. Because you sidewalls are going to getting eaten alive by ledges. Sure there a little bit more heavy (3 oz's) but it is definitely worth it. Besides you can make up for that weight by just pulling a little eastern on the un important parts of your bike like stem (JUST KIDDING DON'T DO IT). But drilling holes in your rims really isn't a bad idea at all, If your riding dirt I would go for a little thinner sidewall then normal just becuase your not really do anything that will destroy it. So go ahead ride a folding tire
Folding tires
Well these tires fold up hence the name "folding tire" they also are thinner in general so except more flats if you ride one. The sidewalls and the bead are also much thinner so they can fold up. They dont have a metal bead in them either. Unless you have money, I'ed stay away from them. But besides costing 40 bucks a piece, then there pretty good tires. They come in handy on long rides when you bring tools and stuff becuase they fit nice and easy in your backer pack.

There are a lot of tires out there people swear by and other tires who people say where utter pieces of gar-bage when they ran them.
