View Full Version : [How To] 360 HOP (with vid)

so these have taken me a very, very long time to learn. I started doing them but I would pivot a whole bunch. A proper three should be landed with both wheels landing at the same time. I could never do this no matter how hard I tried. so here is how I learned
1. aproach trick with moderate/slow speed
2. start to carve, some may find it easier to carve alot.
3. when you start your carve you will want to start your hop, and look over your shoulder
4. IMPORTANT!!! its very hard to just tuck your three, so what I do is intentionally nose dive, or "dip" my front wheel. this will feel extremely odd at first but it helps level the whole bike out.
5. keep it tight. the tighter you keep your body rolled up the faster you will go.
6. you are going to want to drop your back end early but you must keep it up if you have a hard time landing a full rotation. sometimes leaning over your bars helps alot (thanks shdowconpiracy)
7. absorb as much of the impact as you can.
8. sometimes turning your bars helps keep the momentum going when you land.
a vid of me doing one in slo mo

keep in mind that this isnt the best three that ive done but it is the one I did today for this vid. watch it carefully
What's goin' on, your bike isn't black! YUO LYE!

looking extremely nice, but one thing i noticed..... you didnt land on straight line, meaning the direction u were going before the hop and after the hop wasnt on the same line, but whatever, props

i didnt land in the same "line" i was going in because I carve. show me a flat land three that someone doesnt carve atleast a lil in.
ive been riding for about 3 years. I pretty much just learned them. I could almost do them for a long time, so it shouldent take you that long. if you try really hard for a while you should be able to get it

When i try them i intend to take my foot off the landing because i land my front wheel first its scary...

ya last year i was trying to learn 180 hops and i would always take my foot off...this year i came out of hibernating and could do it easily...now i'm interested in doing a bunny hop 3 but as you said i can basically do them with a pivot..

when i try to flat 360 i cant stay on so once i spin 180 i come off my bike.
is that coz im bottling it and scared of throwing it a lot or is that becuase of my technique?

jake i guess its because your trying so hard and kinda overdoingit
just go at it like a 180 and push more
dont try to hard cos when i do i stack aswell
i cant do it but can stay on till 270

I could 180 for a long time even before I took bmx seriously, so Im not a very good example of how fast you could learn these. I always kinda pivoted when trying these then I tried them for hours at a trime for about three days staight, so thats when I learned them.

that happend to me also but I usually just take a foot off which sucks because my crank arm tears up my leg when I bitch out. You just need to learn to overcome it and stay on man. you will feel better once you do even if you do eat shit.

Im not totally sure what I do with my head, but I kow everyone like to just whip there head around, and i imagine it would work better if you looked over your shoulder the whole way. props on almost landing one. its really hard two land both wheels at the same time so dont get discuraged

I can do 180s no bother and I can nearly get the rotation on a 3, but just can't quite get that last bit. I do land back wheel first though and when I nearly get it I usually end up on my arse so I must need to get it more level like you said. I'll have a go when I get a chance and see how I get on. Good [how to] BTW, we need some more like that

by keeping it tight, do you mean the bike up close to your body or what? i was confused as there could be several meanings to this
blkbike
06-01-2007, 07:23 PM
I mean keeping your bike close and all your limbs sucked in, so you spin faster.

real good how to bud. one thing that helped me out a lot on them, is leaning forward over the bars like you do. it helps keep the back end up also.

yeah man I never thought about mentioning that. Im sure it helps too! Ill add it to the how too

i can't do the dive in... i just pull and stay in a straight position ... tried to tuck but feels impossible lol ... how to dive that when i'm straight up :-s and you seem to do them almost everytime over the bars... i can't pull like that its so weird

this trick took me a long time to learn because i couldn't carve!!

Finally got 300 + pivot, now I'm working on dialing them in. Once you commit it's easy. I started learning today. You should be able to 180 first definitely.

K guys i really need some help. When i try to do these i can't stay tucked, or dipped. If i try to do either it kills all my spin. The only way i can spin it is if my knees are straight, wich keeps the back end down.
So basically i can either get the height and no spin
or the spin but no height, it's so frustrating because i know what i need to do i just can't do it!!
Should i maybe try them off a little kicker or something first??

hmm.... It looked like a decent attempt. Looks like you arent carving hard or fast enough. There is a point you hit in your carve that will sling shot you. just need to find it. its going to feel out of control at first though. againj if you have any questions just ask. these are tricky for sure. some days I cant even do them all that well

06-23-2007, 05:26 AM
hmm..i never even thought of trying these. im gonna try 3 taps first to get the feeling. i did it on a scooter with all ur steps and it was super easy.

06-23-2007, 05:29 AM
ok so i want to find that "slingshot" point? I have felt that before but like you said it felt out of control. I'll give that a try soon and see what happens. Thanks for the help blckbike!
O should i go faster or am i at an ok pace??
