every time i ride for like more than 2hrs, the skin on the palms of my hands like just below my fingers rips off my hands and i start bleeding.
i have large callouses, it's these that rip off, i wear gloves, but i have really shitty hard cheap grips.
will getting better grips stop or at least help this problem?
im sick of taping my hands back toghether every time i ride. :(

yeh getting new grips will help. the callouses are like the yellow hard things just under your finger arent they? well yeh iv got them on my pinky to the index, but they have never bleed, even when i scrape them with a blade.

i would say new grips you'll still get a few blisters MAYBE but your hand palm will be much harder below my fingers is now hard skin

maras, yep, they are callouses, like pads of hard skin.
i have like 2-3mm thick pads of skin, but i think the problem is that they grow to thick and then when i grip stuff tight they are so hard and un-flexible (is that a word? lol) that they rip away from my skin, taking whats underneath with them.
i think i shall try getting some softer grips and see if it solves the problem. maybe i have to grip too tight with these grips cos they are so hard.
anyone else get this problem? or is it just my 'death grip' and my crappy grips?

I would suggest Snafu Poly grips. Nice, thick, and most of all...SOFT.

i cut my callouses off with a shaving razor, it works a treat

interesting, why and when do you do that?
anything that may help is good knowledge.
do you trim 'em down to stop them getting real hard and doing what mine do?

it might sound weird but using a razor is completely safe (unless your a dumb person).
i do it maybe once a week or 2 weeks depends how much i ride.
ive heard if you just let them grow they do rip and bleed so do take care of your hands..
im trying to find whole thread about this topic from vorb but vorb seems to be having problems right now so ill try again some other time

thanks :) i'll try trimming 8)
If they bother you so much soak them in warm water and use a callus remover, it looks like a very fine cheese grater, for a cheap alternative you can use a pumice stone. If your grips are as hard as vulcanized rubber then yeah change them and see if they help, or even take off your gloves and just go to a good soft grip.

calluses are good, but when they get too big they arent, just wear some fingerless gloves and you'll be fine

i found some softer grips (two LHS grips off dirt bikes, dont match lol) and threw them on, and rode for like an hour and a half this evening with no blood or ripped hands :D :D :D
i trimmed back the flaps that were still on my hands and trimmed my big callouses like you recommended and it feels much better.
i'll get some proper grips and i'll carry on trimming if i find they are getting too hard again.
thanks dudes, think this has solved an annoying problem :D

i had 2 blood blisters on my right pinky from brakes when i first started riding again once it warmed up, and now its fine, its just your hands arnt used to the grips, and after a few weeks they will harden up, i take a callous sanding block and sand the callouses off my hands every 3-5 days depending on how they are..
it helps them flex which is nice, and also makes my hands nice and soft=good for the laides :hihi:
only thing to do is get softer grips, or boil your grips for awhile which softens them

My friends all get these calouses things just under their fingers.
I use Fit logo grips and i have never got these calouses that everyone gets.
I ride just as much as them so it aint that. I would recommend these grips to anyone.
