View Full Version : [How-To] Drill holes & install gyro tabs

I wanted my odyssey gyro back on my s3 so that's what i did:

1) bought a pair of flybikes removable gyro tabs

2) made a sign on the frame with a marker

i controlled the distances first and signing the center of the tubes was ok for me

this way:

3) drilled holes with a 2.5mm drill (with the same distance of the holes on gyro tabs obviously)

4) tapped the holes with a 3Mx0.5 thread

5) screwed in the tabs

6) and voilą!

sorry for my horrible english and the low pictures quality but i'm italian and the only thing i had with me was a crap camera phone. hope that helps anyways!

Good how-to, this will probably be helpful for many people.

If you center punch the holes it will keep the drill bit from wandering, and make drilling the holes a bunch easier. You should use a punch, but a phillips screwdriver will work.

i think it either came with a straight cable or possibly a gryo plate instead of tabs?

nope it's a fit s3 and it did not come with holes for gyro tabs, only brake bosses and cable guides.the newer ones already come with holes

^ You and me both, dude. I've had the idea ever since I got a frame without detangler tabs & remembered the Guiri's. Only thing is, I know shit-all about tapping threads, like what tool to use, how to use it, and how threads are measured. Now if I ever get around to a Gyro again, I can just quote the thread size from this guide to make sure I get the right tool(s) \o/

i dont understand where you drill the holes....can anyone help...i know how fart apart the holes are meant to be but like how high or to the side do you drill the holes in the head tube....in frames with them the holes in close to the top and centered ...any help?

sorry mate i didnt notice the msg, here i am. i thought the 2nd image was quite self-explanatory,i didnt know where to exactly drill the holes so i tried doing the better i could, and it worked. you have to imagine how much room you need to make the gyro fit between the stem gyro plate and the gyro tabs, and so i did. i realized the center of the toptube was a good point and obviously the center of the headtube is where the tabs HAVE TO stay. make a sign as i told in the guide then measure what distance are the holes in your tabs, then divide by 2 and make 2 dots where the holes will be (a punch can help a lot) the same distance up and down the mark. otherwise you can place the tab in the cross and then do the dots with a marker so you got the exact distance

here's 3 closer views of my bike so you should know how to do it now. hope that helps

dont worry,i did that experiment on a brand new and fresh painted S3 and i wasn't scared at all,it's not that hard! good luck! =)
