Is it just me, or are there more and more stabbings and shootings everyday? I'm always hearing on the news about someone getting stabbed at a T stop or someone getting shot at a convenience store. And that's just in Boston alone. I can't imagine what kind of stuff must be going on in bigger/tougher cities.
I should probably stop watching the news... It's all negative and has a depressing effect on people. This is sorta on the same track as BillyT's thread about how violence is promoted in society.

same here, wen i watch the news, there is a stabbing or a shooting.. always. But usually more shootings than stabbings, but i thnk it all should stop, cuz im sick of it wen some dumb *** kills some innocent person(s)
its just not fair to him/her.

Especially when it is over stupid things. There was one guys here who got stabbed for taking a seat on a bus that some dude claimed it to be his. Things don't get more trivial than that.

It's just because the media is covering it more because it gets higher ratings that way.
Did you know:
The amount of terrorism has fallen since the 80's, with the exception of 9/11 and up to a year or two ago it had kept falling? The only reason people think of it as a huge amazing and horrible threat is because all the media shoves down their throats is each and every terrorist attack.

It is really sick and twisted, but yes, this is actually true. People don't REALLY want to see good news, but they think they do. Its a physcological thing.

I know that the news just shoves that stuff out at us, but I seriously think that there are more people being murdered than there was 20-30 years ago.

i think it's just that we are made more aware of it now. in many cities actually it seems that crime is starting to drop. crime though is just a part of living in any urban enviroment. what you actually see of it all depends on what neighborhood you live in and what kind of local news teams your city has.

Except the gov. can't do much to get to the root. If you agree with me the root is what the parents teach their kids.

It could be said that things like harsh living conditions are part of the cause. Why do you think poor parts of town are so sketchy?

I wanna visit compton, but those statistics are pretty bad. I suppose only if you pi$$ off a gang real bad do you have a good chance of getting killed.
Most sketchy towns arethe ones with violence, since all of the drugs and all.

As far as I can tell, there's two main causes of crime, poor kids that have no where else to turn and bored rich kids. It's all part of a deeper problem within the individual but I won't get into that.
Give the poor kids somewere to go, or even do the unthinkable and *gasp* do things to supply jobs and strenghthen the economy in their area and give them chances to get out of the ghetto. And give the rich kids something to do. Of course neither of these will elimate all of the problem, but I think it would be a start.

This is funny because a lot has been made of New York City being much better than it was like, 10 years ago crimewise but if you were new to the area or something you would think that there is rampant crime and murder throughout the city. I think a lot of it has to do with the way it is covered in the media. We have had almost constant coverage of the recent crazy shooting and the police shooting but they are, in reality, just two shootings in a rather large city.

Ahh yes, I grew up in Compton partly and Long Beach mostly. I'd like to recommend you stay away. Not that I guarantee something will happen...
Think of any ghetto as a jungle, when the vulnerable are spotted they may be attacked. Could be anything. Could happen anywhere. I have many memories of coming home to crack heads leaving my house with my stuff. Truth is that you better watch your ass where ever you go. Especially when you don't know the fastest way out.
Are you serious aboput that shit, like coming home with dudes stealing your shit? My view is aslong as you just keep to yourself, dont act like your better then anyone, and dont be a dick youll like 80% of the time be pretty safe, but theres always times when none of these work.

The living conditions, when they frequently include being hungry and jealous there will be a problem. When your miserable, you'll cut any corner or throat to end it. But try not to spend to much time worrying for what may never happen.
Enjoy that time instead. Realize there are people who will try to live off of you. They will try to eat you. Watch your back as though a lion could appear at anytime. You can't reason with a hungry lion.
Kill it.
Feed it.
Or leave something for the lion so the lion dosent come looking for you.

yeah even here in belgium there were incidents: a skinhead shot someone with a rifle :eek: , a guy got stabed 5 times by two poles cuz he didn't want to give them his mp3, another guy got stabbed. all three of them dead. and for what?!!
it's cooled down a bit though, no casualties in months.
let's hope it stays that way.

It's not really about bush, it's about what his decisions allow other rich people to do. That's what keeps them safe as well, the rich are cool with it. Most likely nothing will be done about it. Evil dosent want to punish evil. But every once in a while, freedom must be feed with the blood of tyrants.
