i kinda like the "81". Is there any benefit of seatstay mounted brakes besides chain clearance?

Well I read somewhere chainstay brakes have better stopping because the position on the rim that the brakes are being applied, where as seatstay would have better stopping if your were going backwards. But besides clearance, seatstay brakes dont really do much in my opinion. I prefer them though.

cool thanks i always kinda wondered why they still made some frames w/chainstay mounts on them.

Chainstay brakes will flex into the frame when applied while going forward, seatstay brakes (and front brakes) flex away from the frame when applied while travelling forward.

It's less of a problem with 990-style brakes compared to sidepulls/V brakes/ old Odyssey Pitbulls, because they are mounted via the middle of the brake arms (instead of one end). But still...

ok i might sound stupid but is it bad to have them flex into, or away from the frame.

Away is worse, because the metal of the tubing helps the stiffness of the braking when it flexes into the frame.

why all the companies are building so light frames, i mean , i prefer a durable frame than a lighter one that don`t resist more than a few months!!!

I half-agree with you. If it's a light frame with a warranty, than i'd take it over a heavy frame with a warranty, because why not lose the weight. But these Volumes don't have warranties that I'm aware of.
