So I'm 32 and trying to learn some bmx tricks cause its fun so I got a bike a few weeks ago and I've been practising bunnyhopping, ALOT....I improved but now my upper back hurts (around shoulder blade). I'm a pretty fit person so I'm surprised something that this happened from my little hops. I'm starting to rethink learning, and stressing quality over quantity. Like maybe trying to do fewer hops but focus more on each hop. So my question is.... has anybody else out there hurt themselves from learning to hop? I might just have some weird predisposition. Also I may have hurt my back from lifting weights so I'm not 100% sure.

You just gotta stretch and let the muscles warm up before you start working on stuff you find difficult. Just ride around a bit and do some manuals or something before you start bhopping around, and do a couple stretches.

probably just using muscles you dont normally use, strech and hydrate.

yeah,a bunnyhop uses muscles you can't normally exercise.

it could possibly even be sore neck muscles if it's down in your blades, i think it's just muscle pain i wouldn't worry about it just relax and see if it stops

Yeah, pretty sure after a while it'll stop hurting. Like METAL said you'll just be using muscles in a different way than you have before.
Maybe try and alternate the stuff you're doing, instead of solely concentrating on bunnyhops

when I first started i had the same thing going, if your body isnt used to riding and the motions of hopping it can stress them pretty mush what everyone is saying stretch drink water and take your time learing new things this isnt a sport that you are going to become a pro in a day so go at an easy pace do what feels natural!

Im 29 and i just started at the begining of summer. It kinda felt like when id bhop id rip my shoulder blades off. After a while i got used to it i dont get the ache there anymore because i was out on my bike evey day or every other day. i probably built up some muscle and started to bhop smoother>

Yeah that was pretty much it. Landings were uneven and front end comes down hard.
