Having learned wheelie barspins and small no-handers in the past you decide you want to learn hop barspins.

You probably want to be able to hop at least as high as a 2-liter bottle of pop to simplify that.

Also Shinguards can increase confidence.

Here is a few tips I put together that might help.

First off you want a nice flat place to try them on. Preferably an empy parking lot, or your driveway. You can try them into grass to. You must ride at a slowish pace.

Hop Barspins are actually quite simple you just have to work your confidence up and just do it. They can be scary its something about tossing your bars in mid air that gives your thought of landing with your tire sideways and flying to the cement. I have never gottin seriously hurt trying barspins, one encounter I fell on my back. Thats it most of the time I can jumpoff in time and grab the seat.

I found it easier to throw right when your front wheel has reached its peak rather then leveled out and thats because you either A) Dont have to hop as high or B) Throw as hard due to your bars having more time to get around you can stay more relaxed.

It does not matter which way you throw the bars or which foot you have forward, just do what is most comfortable but if your throwing your bars clockwise then you throw with your right hand. You dont have to pinch your seat although you may feel more comfortable if so. I myself learned barspins with a jammed seat. While throwing your bars you want your legs tucked back beyond bar clearance which should be the sides of your seat either pinching the seat but I myself learned hop bars without pinching so I cant really go much into that, and to keep you from falling back or not leveling out you MUST lean forward with your upper body to stay centered considering you lower body is tucked back so far you have to balance that weight out.

After throwing just bring your forwards hand round to the 270 position to catch bars as it comes round and to bring it back in if that makes sense. For clockwise you throw with your right hand and catch with your left.

Working up to a full barspins you can try hop half barspins first. They are REALLY easy trust me. This is how I learned hop barspins. First I tried low hop half barspins then testing my ability I hopped as high as I could and did a slow hop half barspin after 20-30 of these later I decided I wanted to do a full barspin so I hopped started a high hop at my peak I threw the bars nearly as hard as I could caught the bars (Timing you should know from regular pop and throw barspins) and wa-la.
Also some other members tips

you don't lean back really, you just wanna get your knees back and then you have to get your upper body foreward to balance. if you just lean back, then yes, your bike will shoot out.

practice with manual barspins first

Here is a video of me doing a few and 'trying' a 180 barspin. Note: This video is almost a year old this was the night I did my first hop barspin.

Lets Review

Ride at a slow pace

Beginning your hop your ready to pinch your seat your legs must be beyond bar reach and reaching your peak your throw your bars with your right hand (if clockwise) having your legs tucked back beyond seat either pinching or not and lean forward with your upper body, bring your hand back and catch the bars with your left hand first and ride away.

Prerequests : Pop N' Throw barspins, Small No-Handers.

Most imporant thing : JUST DO IT

And now your Edwin Delarosa.

I can get hop barspin somehow, but the problem is that I can't catch the bars on air, that's why I am scared to try them off something, so could someone tell me what I should do with my hands on this trick, so i could catch the bars.
Here is a little vid of me doing barspins. http://dominatevideos.net/v2290

Looks like you have about got them. Your landing right when about to catch the bars though... See what happens if you hop higher.

I'm not really sure about that. I say it's better to throw the bars at the peak of the bunnyhop, when you don't have to pull the bars more to level out, and it looks better when bars are thrown higher.

the main thing that helped me is not to spin them too early

Different for everyone I guess... This How-to is coming from my perspective and how I learned them.

Now i have practise hop barspin some more, but still they are terrible. Only problem is that, i don't catch bars on air, even if i hop higher. What do you guys do with your hands on this trick. Cos i do barspins like this, i hop up, and when i am on the right spot. i spin the bars clockwise, and i use my both hands to spin bars. And when i see some pro riders they just hop and spin the bars with the other hand and the other is ready to catch the bars.
So should i hop up and then take other hand up and off the bars and then spin the bars, same time move the other hand ready to catch the bars. In one smooth motion. :?

Charles
07-31-2006, 07:04 PM
I throw with my right hand for the most part and toss as hard as possible and go like 90 around then tuck it back to be ready to catch
and my left hand will go like 270 and be ready to catch the bars when they come around I catch with my left first.

I wouldnt practise them on grass.. I need to be rolling to do 'em.. The worst thing ever happend to me was flipping over the bars so it's not that bad.. What the worst problem for me is when i hit my knees 'cause i'm being a dumbass and checking out a hot chick instead of looking at what im doing.. So my tip is make sure youre legs are out of the way, and wear gloves.. and kneepads the first couple of times if youre scared..

Right, I tried them and well, once was enough to put me off until I get some answers as to why the following happens. Right so out of the blues I tried one. So I hop and towards teh beggining I just spin the bars fast but as soon as I le go its like everything falls apart, the bike i all over the place, my feet are abot a foot away from the pedal and this mess and tangle is heading towards the ground fast. So how exactly do you keep the bike with you and leveled and stable and all that?

Having learned wheelie barspins and small no-handers in the past you decide you want to learn hop barspins. (Also known as bus drivers.)

Actually, a hop barspin is a hop barspin. A bus driver is when you push the bars all the way around with 1 hand, instead of just 'throwing' them.

Charles
10-02-2006, 06:02 AM
That is correct, I knew that to, damn. I wrote the article when I was tired as hell.

Like the driver of a bus turning the huge wheel they drive with.

if you have trouble catching it try hopping higher and try and catch the bar with the hand the hand that you didnt throw with (if you throw with the right hand, catch with your left) try and get that hand to meet with the bar when its spun 270 degrees then put your other hand on while straightening the bar

KoolAidGuy
10-30-2006, 12:20 AM
hmm...i cant seem to pinch my seat in the air, i can do barspins fine on flat but i cant get it in the air

Tommy Hains
10-30-2006, 01:23 PM
just stick your legs back (at the same place they would be if you'd pinch) and lean over the bar a bit so you dont flip back when you land, the rest is the same as on flat

i started trying barspins this weekend and now my knees are pretty badly bruised from all this seat pinching lark. now you tell me i dont have to pinch the seat? i tried not pinching the seat first of all, and that ended in pain.

as soon as my knees are better im gonna get my pads on and try barspins for a whole day without stopping. then ill go and dig the trails a bit more.
