Article from BMX-Zone.com, http://www.bmx-zone.com/en-article-id-499.html

When I first read about these new super lightweight folding tires my gut reaction was what a load of rubbish, folding tyres will pop like flies on those electric fly zapping things. I was a true sceptic and unlike most spectics I decided to try them for myself, admitably I was in a weight whore mode so thought that this would be the perfect excuss to buy these tryes and give them a whirl.

Putting the tyres on was at first something I was dreading my my Himiko rim and its raised edge every tyre I had tried to put on required many tyre levers and elbow grease in bucket loads. To my surprise they went on without any tyre levers and they slotted into place nicely. Once pumped up I slotted my wheels back into my frame and forks and emediatly the difference was obviuos, I'd taken nearly 2lbs off my bike weight and i nthe most important area. Now would all this weight loss mean endless punctures or would it be the best thing since sliced bread.

I've been rocking these tyres now for just over a month and I run them at the full whack, 120psi front and rear and as of yet I haven't had a single puncture and I'm not smooth by any means. Having 120psi coupled with there low profile and super low weight these tyres sure as hell roll. I was over the moon when I found out these tyres have grip and lots of it, especially from a 1.7 tyre in the rear where I need it for stalls and wallrides. The front beeing a 2.1 means theres plenty of shock absorbtion for those big heavy landings. I don't run pegs anymore but it doesn't stop me from grinding and even though I'm not running the Street versions, which are recommended to be used if grinding, these still haven't seen any wear or damage to the sidewalls. Only time will tell and I do miss a fair few grinds.

Myfirst gripe is that on hot days when I've been out riding for a long time and the tyres have heated up they start to squirm and drag on the roads and it feels like I have a puncture, but everytime I check to see whats going on they are fully inflated. It's nothing major, it just bugs me.My second gripeis I originally bought two Park tyres and they measure up as big as a Ruben 2.25 which meant that the rear didn't fit In so I had to swap it over for the Flatland version which measures up about 1.75. I was just a little pissed off that I couldn't ride becasue someone at KHE can't use a tape measure. Please KHE in the future make some inbetween tyre sizes like 1.85 or 1.95 to fit the majority of frame son the market, I'm sure you'll see more.

This is a revolution in the BMX industry and it will become the new tyre standard, I'm sure of it in a few years time and I believe tyre design will only get better still. You could say I've been converted and I won't be so quick to judge new things and yes I will always be rolling on foling tyres from now on.
Pros:
<ul>
Super Light
Very grippy
Fast rolling
Long lasting
Easy to fit
Cons:
<ul>
Expensive
Measure up bigger than stated so check your frame clearence before buying them.
Need some more inbetween tyre sizes.
Summary

Considering these tyres weigh 1/3 of the weight, if not more than most of the other tyres out there, yet still offer just as much gripand most puncture pretection than most of the other tyres out there, it's some feet of engineering and I'm sure many other companies will be on the foling tyre bandwagoon very very soon.

Rating

Almost perfect 9/10 - There still expensive for a tyre but as more companies bring out super lightweight folding tyres the prices will drop a fair amount.A truely revolutionarytyre, easilyone of the top ten BMX componantas of all time.

Costs: about &pound;20

how's the grip on the front?

i usually run a dirt tire on the front for more grip (ody dirt path), because i noticed when i used a "street style" tire on the front, i was slipping around a bit while riding....not so bad that i was bailing or anything, but i had to pay a bit more attention to where my front was going, if that makes any sense.

i'd love it if they made a tread that was closer to an ody dirt...do the tires come with any different treads?

I'm still running the front one, without minimal wear, never had a trye that grips so well.

I ripped the back on to pieces doing wallrides.

2 of my friends have ripped the side walls to peices on the park tyre. one doing grinding and one from jumping a box somehow.... (he doesnt grind or run pegs)

I've had no problems with my street tire though, and nore has anyone else i know.

hey joe did you put it on the rear? does it help a little with getting your rear higher as in B-hops? my G/F works at a bike shop now so i get a disc. they dont carry khe tho, thats why im still bent on the miracle for my rear and i heard they roll fast too. with her disc. its only 11$ US! (for the miracle.)

they're coming out in 48mm width wich is like 1.92 or something so whoever wants to use one in the front as well as the rear (like me) have something to look forward to

yer i got a park on the back , its nice and light but im thinking of changing it to the new new odyssey plyte tyre , path light but only because its to wide as i have to make sure i keep my rear wheel perfectly central, it gets annoying.

Yep, I too made the mistake of forking out for 2 Park Mac 2's only to find out the rear set up rubbed on the S3 Aitken. Being miffed that less rotating weight only works when the wheel can revolve I took it upon myself to call Ison the UK KHE distributor. After stating the problem and also the fact that Tioga FS100 1.85 are no longer distributed neither, I was pleased to hear that due out soon UK (2/3 weeks) is a 48mm (1.90" ) Mac 1.5 Park 350g and Street version 398g!

Only odd thing is the weight for the Park 1.90" at 350g is heavier than the current 2.0" tyre which is 329g!

just worn the first one down, still enough tread for my unicycle though, lol.

I shal be buying a smaller Street tyre then as I've rediscovered grinding. My Street fits fine in my S3 with an Araya Himiko wihc makes it 2.4ish but the calipers hit on the tyre sidewall.

i just bought some and kinda got nervous and ive been searching for a review and i finally found one thanks a lot Michael Hardman for the review it really helped me out. im thinking i should have got the street rear but i think it'll be fine cuz ive had the same primo walls for 3 years and ive only had one flat in the rear and no rips so i think it wont be a problem. plus im brakeless so i wont have to worry about losinng tread.. just my shoes lol. thanks alot.

I've got a lot of pucntures recently, one was defo from glass but the other two were unexpected, pumped tyres to 120psi and next day they were flat. I can only assume that it was the 18inch tubes I was using as the 20inch ones are fine.

i just bought 2 of these yesterday for my bike but i got the street versions...they are very lightweight and feel very nice and smooth wen riding...the price is a little high($70 for 2) but i think its worth it for lightweight tires that are this good

you think that rubbing your shoes on your tire doesn't eat the tire tread? man, you're so wrong.

fitbike61
01-06-2007, 04:01 AM
yea it will sooner or later in a couple of months eat up any tread. the only way im getin these tires is if i get em one at a time. ill just get one up front when i need a tire

fitbike61

wuts the point of 16 inch tubes? all it is, is losing probably like 3 ounces tops and is probably a btch to put on

I have the 1.9 Street now and for once it measures up bang on 1.9 rather that being about 2.4 when stated a 2.1 tyre.

i got the park 2.1s front and rear sssooooooooo smooooooth when you land tyou dont feel or hear anything

Beanie
01-07-2007, 07:36 AM
i think the tires are stupid, from the pictures, there is little to no sidewall grip or tread, the tread thickness is about as thick as a dime from the pictures, and who cares about folding tires, ive had all my tires folded in ups boxes, and what do you know, after putting them on, they form the SAME SHAPE wow who wouldve guessed.

i dont see any use spending $35 on a tire thats super thin, when you can spend $35 for T W O tires thats are a little heavier but have much more grip and life

fitbike61
01-07-2007, 07:40 AM
well i guess if ur not a heavy rider than this is a good tire for you. the whole point of this tire is not to be foldable but to be light..

MuthaFNFBM85
01-08-2007, 12:35 AM
i dont think KHE would put tires that suck out on the martket buddy. just like everyone says that crap about lite weight parts like " its gonna break and they cost so much" they arent going to break. you guys dont realize how much testing goes into these parts including these tires. KHE is not a low quality company. If youre worried about the thin sidewall just buy the street tire its still superlite weight. and they are worth the 35$ because they are smooth and lite. youre whole bike feels really lite.

Louis K

wuts the point of 16 inch tubes? all it is, is losing probably like 3 ounces tops and is probably a btch to put on

its not too bad, and 3 ounces for each wheel is half a pound.... which would cost you $80 for a ti spindle the same weight..

fitbike61
01-08-2007, 04:12 AM
didnt know it was 3 oz per wheel. but still its kinda extreme to risk the chance of possible easy flats out of nowhere.

Louis K
01-08-2007, 04:19 AM
tubes stretch really far though. its rubber. you ever just inflate a regular tube not inside a tire? it gets huge like 10 times the size before it blows
