Trick Description:

Turndown: Turning the bar by almost 180 degrees while looking to the back of your bike during a jump.

HOWTO:

1) aproach the ramp at a moderate speed, the faster you go the usually the higher you will go...

2) on take off pull you bars up.. and kick your bike out to the side that your back foot is on.. (mine being right)

3) pull your hand closest to your whip out way into your body (this would be my right, your left) this will bring the bars round a bit.)

4) now that you have pulled your arm into your body... extend your legs so they are straight, then extend your other arm and push down on the bars, this will make you bring the bars in with the other hand while turning the bars round as much as possible... if you want to get turndowns more and more clicked. you should Lean over the bike... this gives you leverage to push the bars down more.

5) now that your comming down you should bend your legs and turn the bars back and then let the bike whip out of position... and land.

Don't forget to wear your helmet when learning this trick!

i think you should say turn to what side feels right

cause i ride right foot forward and turndown the same direction as you...i just pedal my foot until its where it should be...its easier than trying to do it the other way

but whatever, still a great how-to

I'm practicing for over a week now.. but can't straighten my legs
is there a special movement to do that ? ..or does it always take long to get the feeling ?

if you lean over the bike when snapping your bars over... your legs will straighten them selves.

hardest thing about turndowns is that when u kick the bike out ur usually doin it opposite to the easiest way

reflux
07-02-2006, 04:37 AM
Then do it the other way?

Weeman
07-02-2006, 03:32 PM

one little tip i used when learning them: if you having trouble whiping the bike out, try laying down in some grass with your bike on top of you and try it like that. it helped me get a feel for em.

yeah great how to. lol laying upside down is the way to go it lets you get the feel for it w/put getting hurt. turndowns take time so be patient.

I have been biking for about a year now. And I can't seem to get my turndowns correctly. I will get my waist turned around so I can see behind myself, but I can't get my end to whip like it should or get my bars tied up next to my legs they should look/feel.

Any help or suggestion? Thanx, Cody.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'll take a guess.

When you un-click a turndown, you tend to turn 90' in the opposite direction, that's why people kick the rear end out first.

yep that what am saying so i need to kick left then turndown?

jawn
09-24-2006, 04:14 AM

okay so on all my pics everyone says lean over the front more and push down...do they mean..lean over the front like wrap your body around more so your in front of the headtube? and at the same time push your bars away from your body while turning them to get them clicked..thats how you straighten your legs? someone please clarify

when the bike is say infront of you. if you lean over the headtube like you said. your arms push foward, the other pulls back up and your legs stretch.

Chris
02-07-2007, 01:58 PM
Stephen...

try kicking the back end out first... or try bring the bike up vertical and just lean over the top and turn bars round.

Riderneverdie...

you could allways try and switch your feet when coming to the jump?
