so i got me a dell with a pentium 4, xp pro and im having some problems.
#1. im trying to watch a video from a trails jam a few weeks back and its in quicktime format so it brings up quicktime and then before it plays it says there are files missing so it cant play the video. the backround music plays, but theres no picture. my friend who knows a bit about the computers says the file could be corrupted so im downloading it again. any ideas?
#2. my aol instant messenger starting about a month ago when i tried to talk to someone it would say "an error or problem has occured and aol instant messenger has to shut down". it says that when i recieve an im or i open an im window. i can be online and put an away message up but i wont see any messages that get my away message and if a box comes up like i said, it shuts down. anyone else had this problem? ive tried downloading it several times after reinstalling it and it does the same thing. also i tried downloading the new triton version on their site but it says there was some invalid file or something after i got it downloaded.
like i said i dont know much about computers, so any information appreciated.

1: check quicktime's site and re-download quicktime, completely remove it before re-downloading and installing. and yes the file could be corrupt, check to make sure it wasnt before you re-download quicktime
2: I am not very familiar with AIM but I do know it is very annoying. when you remove it from your computer you have to go to add/remove programs and delete it from there (if it shows up) and after that go to program files and delete the AIM file. then re-download it. sorry i cant be more helpful on this one.

for the AIM thing, i dunno whats wrong, but if you absolutely HAVE to get on everyday, try using AIM express (there's a link to it on the front page). its not really that differen't from normal AIM, but you don't need to download anything and there's no popups about whats new on gilmore girls.

for the first prob umm what could be happening is that you dont have the proper codec might i recommend going and downloading a program called vlc media player. mainly cuz it plays nearly every file type

My AIM does that too, everytime I shut it off.
By the way, you can turn off the popups about the gilmore girls.

ok, for problem one, google for ACE codec mega pack and down load if from a random site. install it and try to run the movie using a little progam called media player classic. it might work then.
for the second problem try this (watch out, you might f*ck up your comp using this method, dont held me responsible): go to the start menu and click run, then type in "regedit" you should see a screen holding a tree at the left with several folders, search all these folders for annyting containing that could have somthing to do with AOL. before you do this uninstal AOL. after deleting everyting in the RegEdit reboot your computer, take the power of. turn it off at the back of the machine. turn it back on after about 5 mins. boot it up. and install AOL. and see if it works. if it still doesnt work. go to the site of AOL and check for annything that says trouble shooting or custommer support. and dump your problem there. again. if this f*cks up your comp. i warned you dont held me responsible
