I'm having a majorproblem on my desktop. It's a dual boot setup with Win Pro 2000 and Suse Linux 9.0. When I turned on my computer thismorning windows just keep rebooting. Linux will boot normally. Both os's on two seperate drives and I'm using the grub bootloader. I trieda system disk floppy, it boots butr my windows hd is locked. Any advice?

Sounds like your windows install somehow got ****ed up. It probably needs to be reinstalled.

That's what I thought, but I'm hoping to get a few files off. Plus I don't have a win cd.

If possible try system restore. Just go back a few days.

Insert the Suse Linux CD/DVD and then go to "update installation" and re-install the boot-loader.

^just a general reference^
and if what wynex doesnt work, try to go into the recovery console and type "fixmbr"

Wynex and Zoht, you guys ROCK! I did those two things and now I'm back in business. I owe you both a beer or three. Do you think I should do a clean install? It's my 'business' computer?

That should work fine.

If the MBR works, there is no need to install Linux again.

Thanks again. I also have an external hard drive (usb), if I want to be able to plug it in to both Linux and Win, what file system should I use to format it?
ntfs, im not sure if you can access a linux swap thru windows...
but i know that you can mount a ntfs file system in linux

Ok, that's what I thought. I want to format the drive ntfs so that I can bring it to jobs and transfer cad drawings to people who have win. Again, thanks a bunch, you guys are great.
