Ive seen plenty of ppl do it and ive seen many a video but i still dont get it. How would i go about jumping a mound of dirt. Say im wanting to do a double on some trail say near Sacramento, Cali. Do i Bunnyhop before i hit the edge or do i let my momentum take me off the jump and when i do get in the air, how do i land perfectly on the other jump like all others do. They seem to have the perfect speed everytime or am i missing something. Please help.

it is both momentum and hoping right as you reach the top. It basicaly just takes lots and lots of practice. And for good landings you want to nose down to get it nice a smooth. BTW I live near Sacramento, I ahve a knee injury right now but maybe ni a moth or so we could go riding together.

PS With dirt jumping start small and work your way up.

you have to take them quickly or you going to get nowhere and you have to have no reservations about doing it otherwise your likely not to put the full effort in and come short.
starting with smaller jumps will be less imtimidating and will be less dangerous if you bail.
as for the technique its sort of like a really slow hop you hav to lift and get high before you tuck at the peak.
you shood know when your peak is through the feel of your bike.
then you have to drive down the front of the bike to follow the lip of the landing.
maybe starting with table jumps will help you practice your landings your less likely to eat sh*t if you crash on them.

So i must bunnyhop at the lip of the jump i am going off of or can i just rely on my momentum to take me up.

its a little difficult to explain but its definately not a simple bunny hop. basically, at first it will seem like your going too fast but you want the extra help. For me, i just pull up the front, and tuck to level out. then you want to try to drop the nose so that you land cleaner. As long as you learn on smaller jumps, preferably one with a tabletop, you should be ok. if this is the case, you shouldnt be thinking about it this much because with a table top, the worst thing that can happen is hitting your bak tire on the flat top part of the jump.

i am telling you this cause it helps me, biut dont overdo it. when i think that i might not clear the top of the landing, i lean a little bit forward, just not too far. just to get you back tire over the top of the landing

yeh let the jump take you and just hop if your going for extra height. but its hard to understand until you try it. you'll just have to go for one to see how it feels

as for the right speed try and follow someone up to the jump so you know about how much speed you need. then start by just racering the jump. nice and low. then werk on height

Yea using an experienced buddy to judge speed is always good.
