I don't believe in clips. They give riders with them an unfair advantage.

If you think you're disadvantaged by not having clips, FREAKING BUY SOME SON. Then you can't complain about being disadvantaged.

I did not vote because I do not race anymore. BUT clips are fine, however I would not be against the ABA or NBL either baning clips entirely especialy in the pro classes to promote more berm action, or banning them for all intermediates and riders under 10. Riders under 10 for the most part do not even understand how to use clips, they never pull up with one fot and push down on the other, they just cause problems. Intermediates and beginers often learn to jump relying on thier clips wich ain't good.
So my tip to you, if you want to get clips do not get them until you are over 10 and in the expert class in the long run it will make you a better rider.
Eggit, i cant jump with my clips. i can but i suck. but your right on taking them away from novice class, inter is fine, and kids under 10.

I always looked at it this way... when there is a chance you could fall, why would you ever want to be connected to your bike?

That is the other thing, most people set thier clips way too tight, especialy track dads with thier 5 year olds. I cringe everytime I see a 5 year old laying on the groudn stuck to his bike. Set your clips as loose as possible while still being able to pull up on them.

Every single time i fall off, i unclip automatically......... but if there're super duper tight you're ankle would hurt like hell, you'll have **** all movement and you won't clip out.

It is my personal (and qualified opinion) that clips don’t belong on a BMX bike, as they produce lame procession cornering, reduce the spectators view-ability, increase drastically the seriousness of injuries, sets a bad example to youngsters who never had a chance to know better…
BMX across the world has a negative image sadly by other 20” disciplines, it just doesn’t notch up the extreme image anymore (exception of BMX/downhill which totally Rocks!!!).
You’ll never see a Playstation BMX Race game the way this sport is de-evolving thanks to lame clip racing (can you imagine the game – choose number of players - 1 or 2, chose level- intermediate/clipped pedals or advanced/flat pedals).
Clips suck, just not BMX!
The UK are trying to get them banned, wheel over the gate protests, forum polls show a clear consensus towards a ban...
The Frenchies banned them, Brit's are trying to ban them...
They are sucking the very radness that made BMX!

Theyre not banned anywhere and never will be. And if they did id still pull a "Breaking Away" and duct-tape my feet to the pedals. why are all of you talking about disadvatages? BMX Racing is an advantage sport. Clipless pedals are available to the public, as are all bike parts, therefore no one is really at a disadvantage. Except poor people, which is why identical bikes would be neccessary for something like a ban on ceratin parts.(Which is rediculous) If the sport is to grow and evolve, new technology needs to be welcomed, not frowned upon. And as a dedicated racer i would respond to the safety aspect of clipless with a simple, straight-forward statment. "once you fall, youve essentially lost at that point, does it really matter if your still connected to the bike?" Pros outweigh cons in my opinion. Pros being increace in acceleration, top-end, and smoothness, and cons being...umm well, none, in my opinion.. Keep in mind however, that i learned to speed jump and manual before using clipless.Thats not the norm, ive noticed among younger kids now. But theyre only hurting themselves. And if you want to sway a clipless rider, you need only to pull them on platforms, consistently.

Reading an article on clips, Quote:
"If you use a clipless pedal system you may be exposing your body to potential knee injuries.
Approximately 96% of the population has what is known as a forefoot tilt. This is where the front of your foot is not flat but rather has an angle or tilt.
Clipless pedal systems do not accommodate this tilt, instead forcing the foot into an unnatural flat position.
The body compensates for this with a lateral (side to side) motion of the knee during the pedal cycle.
This has the result of creating muscle imbalances that can lead to premature fatigue and serious knee injury". end quote...

Try these bad boys out, be rad, show us a liitle flare on the track, get flat again in the corners, enjoy your sport, race fair, have a little integrity, save your knees, save your bones, reduce your medical insurance Premium!

Clips!!!! they are so special needs, try training harder, take the path less travelled, or is it too easy to cheat to obtain the advantage?

Adoption of the clips is like BMX treason, wanting to gain at any cost sacrifices the very spirit that BMX was founded on, denial and ignorance of this fact is a terrible thing, the ramifications to our great sport is indisputable…
Clips are expanding the gap between other BMX disciplines such as Freestyle/Vert/Street/Trails, why are other BMX disciplines getting all the high-end media coverage, exposure and big sponsorship deals???
Answer’s a simple one, because it is very viewable! very exciting, very extreme, BMX racings has sadly lost it’s eXtreme image, clipster’s risk making our BMX racing “a hybrid discipline” neither fun nor viewable…
It is clear that on a BMX bike the effectiveness and mechanical advantages of clips are increased by approximately 10 % out of the gate (or half a bike down the first straight)… under achievers (and parents) who will search for an artificial increase in performance…
This purely is a question of personal character and integrity i.e; “my personal abilities aren’t there so I’ll clip in, way easier than training harder and true dedication, commitment…
I applaud the French BMX associations for taking a brave and bold stand on its decision to ban clips....
It’s time to do a “U” turn, time to make our sport great again!
Clips belong on traditional "road" cycles, not BMX!

i dont mind the guy next to me wearing clips i still use the
same beartrap type pedals i've always used, i personally like to take my foot off when i need to. if i wanted to use clips i would go out and buy them. i can't say it's unfair because i wouldn't want some one telling me my vans brand shoe is an advantage and i have to switch to payless brand to be fair. what's next banning ti parts because thier too light :P

Its not cheating at all. And i dont know about your scene but i get knocked the f uck around all day in turns by guys clipped in. I think people who arent agressive are juts poosies, regardless of theyre pedals. So what if i taped my feet to the pedal in france? is tape banned too?
So really, all the people on flats are just afraid to get nasty without the crutch of a foot on the ground, you guys make it sound llike were the ones using a crutch. In fact its you. Clips are a more advanced part of the drivetrain, taken fromt he MTB world, which is without argument more advanced than bmx.

someone already said it in the thread and its true...it gives you 10 percent give or take, thats so little when you consider what makes you fast- gate starts, skills on obstacles, strategic passing moves etc. So if a clip rider's got ten percent on you and you wont clip in- get better and quit bitching about other peoples bikes.

You haven't said anything factual, just the usual B/S that cheatin' clipsters hide behind...
I have riden both peddles successfully, clips from my experience gave me a better 2nd to 5th pedal, that's why people utilise them, then you typically ride like yu have a broom stuck up your ass, not very fun, nor exciting to watch, very lame from a spectator stand point... (or potential event sponsor's standpoint)... but hey, if you don't care about our sports longevity and just care about yourself then whatever dude!
Ha, I love the way clipsters live in a peacful state of ignorance, denial always accusing flat riders of being past it and unable to clip in... DUH!
Jeeze guys "helllooo!", I rode clips for a couple of seasons in the States (NBL - forget how many perfects I got...) I just felt it was wrong after a while and it restricted certain lines on corners, certain jump styles (flats are faster when pumping/ laying it flat over corner jumps), you just can't rip up the track on clips...
Oh and...I err, don't get beat much in my class, only one person beat me this year and he was much younger and on flats... yeah, and errr, I',m err... currently leading the national points too... so don't try the "your only moaning 'cos your losing argument, oh, and I love trying it on on Pro open too...guess I just put in more effort than relying on clips...
Oldschool, yes, I prefer to think myself as still in school, I love racing and will till my mortal shell lets me down...
Riding clips look lame, you guys look like your ridin' with a broom stuck up your ass, not very excitable, viewable or fun to watch, spectators must be hardcore to be able to appreciate BMX these days, anyone from the outside of our sport (you know, joe public, TV land people, potential event sponsors, etc) must raise an eyebrow at us these days...
Keep it real, unclip, race fair with flare! clips are turning BMX into a hybrid discipline, nor fun or exciting...
Real BMX for ever!

Racings about getting ahaead, if you want style points, go to a flatland comp, stay the hell off of the race track.
Haha, just kidding. I do , however, want to check your points though, i think youre bullshitting about that part. You do make a good point, flemdag. Im not going to stop riding with clips though, just because it doesnt look as good.

clips should be for road and X-country mountainbiking.
they look *** in BMX.
i busted my tailbone because i gave in and started training/using them to race with, and i looped-out manualling a big double.
it put me out of my points standing...just 'cause i had to be a ****tard like eveyone else and be stuck to my pedals. **** those things.
burn'em!
i had a small advantage with them, but it wasn't all that.
i do just fine without them.
we gotta stop locking our youg children to thier pedals too...jeez...

To Clip or not to Clip, seems to be the question.
Clips are not cheating if the were it would be against the rules. That being said riders today are definately taking advantage of the push and pull they can get from each crank.
I believe that if a rider clips too early he sacrifices form on his manuals and jumping ability and his speed surpases his skills. Most of the time it is parents wanting to give their child an edge and forcing them to clip earlier than they should. This just hurts them in long run. One only should clip in once their skills have advances. Follow this advice and you may save yourself a broken collarbone.

i race bmx and i race clips, if u think that they are unfair advantage then why dont you get some. Just cause we have found out that they do help you doesnt mean you can get all mad about it, try them youll wonder how u ever raced without them. I have crashed before and when you crash you come unclipped anyway. so dont go putting the clips down just cause you dont want to try them.

I come from a platform point of view and i can get clips i just choose not to. The clips do give you an advantage but its not and unfair advantage or a cheat. If it is available to the public i don't think its unfair. Yeah it might lower our popularity of out sport but we can't change that. I agree with 8 years and younger not riding them. I've seen 9 year olds rip up the track on clips.
All I have to say is clips aren't unfair or cheating. My opinion is flats are better.

They're not afraid, they're just p*ssies that need that extra edge to be competitive. If you get Transit race 5 Jason Richardson puts it perfect. he wants it to be no clips because clips make people that aren't competitive worth racing. Had a discussion and i totally agree with clips being a wreck to the sport!

Unfortunatly to be competative at a high level of racing you have no choice but to clip in. I don't race seriously anymore, so I don't clip in anymore, and it gives me a satisfactory feeling to kick guys asses with a 27 pound bike, jeans and a t-shirt, and platform pedals.

A lot of you seem to believe people race with clips to keep their feet on the pedals. This is only true to a point, the main purpose is so you can pedal on the upstroke as well as the downstroke. This gives you superior speed and power. They also happen to be great for those times when you under pull a jump and slam your front wheel into the lip of the jump, preventing your feel from being blown off the pedals. And like some of you have said, the reason a lot of kids ride them is to get an edge on the ones who don't ride them and to stay competetive with those that do. I think it would be good for the sport for them to be banned at ALL races and the nbl and aba should merge, but thats a different story.
