It’s been a little while now since I have posted any news about our pedals. I thought it was about time to update you all.
The design has changed quite a bit from our original concept. The pedal is now much sleeker & the replaceable steel pins are gone due to reasons beyond our control. But it’s all good. We also did away with the half axle design due to its limitations in design.
Here is the final version of our ‘Fantastic Plastic’ pedal. Expect them out August in a range of colours. More info, including a photo of the actual samples will follow soon.

you have no bike to put them on.
Yeah I know i come home at 12 oclock now because my double period math teacher will be absent for the rest of the week. So I have nothing to do but come home. And no one to hang out. I usually hang out at 6 though.
NO I dont have a bike anymore :P

Plastics are one of the bests for Upgraded Bikes!
Steels are not, they will weight like an extra pound. Two Pedals? Two extra pounds, About.

Pedals are weighed in pairs.
I could be a good idea for some companys to sell in singles, for pedal grinders. Kinda like fly grips.

i think it will be interesting to see how all the plastic pedals hold up, cause all the plastic pedals out there now seem to break pretty easy, but then they are cheaper than these. but also at the cost of these when you do break a set you would just go and buy another set.
as for weight, it will be interesting to compare them to welgo magnesium pedals which come in at about 13 ounces for the pair, which are 4.5oz lighter than a pair of fly pedals.
EDIT: i just grabbed some cheap plastic pedals i have here and a pair of them come in at 12.5 ounces

For some reason it's exactly opposite for my friend...his shin was so disgusting when his foot slipped off the plastic pedal, he must be really unlucky cause I had plastic pedals back in the day and I never hurt my legs really badly with them.
plastic pedals are not strong ... of course, but you cant go wrong with them.

I might pick up a pair of these.
...
Completely unrelated, would the KHE Stimulators graphite pedals work for street?
KHE Makes good products too, i like their rims. But yeah the KHE Stimulators are alright I guess. I like the Odyssey's though.

you have to get the right compund for plastic pedals though. Too hard and they'll be too brittle and shatter. Too soft, and all the pins will rip out on your first pedalgrind.
Odyssey seem to have the right compound, apart form the clear ones, which look brittle,
Khe and eastern look to be the same too.
But the animals just look like theyd smash like you grannies pized vase.
Hope colony's will be good.

"expect to see them in August"
So I take it that they are not even going to test these pedals at all before being released to the public? Heck its May now and all they have to show is a few rough blue prints? The last pedal I worked on for a bike company took almost exactly one year from conception to production. Granted we were also able to test out several prototypes along the way.

^ you must have missed the original thread about these pedals. They didnt just barely design them recently. They have been in the work for a while now. They have been tested and changed since the last design. The previous design had a spindel that went like half way through the pedal body and they also had replacable metal pins, those were tested and obviously failed so they have been re-designed and thats what these are. Im pretty sure colony knows what they are doing.

Yes I saw the last proto they were working on. At the moment this new proto, from the looks of things, is still in the design stages. By this I mean it doesent even look like they have made a mold to produce these pedals. Seeing as the mold is very very costly you have to make sure your design is perfect long before you even produce your first set. The first set of pedals they showed look like complete garbage. These are an improvement, but are still a long way off. Its pretty optimistic of colony to say they will be out by this summer. Setting such deadline leaves very little time for R&D, prototyping of this design and production. Please realize that products on store shelves are made generally2-4 months before they even make it to the market. With this being said their planed August launch means that they must have them produced by june or early july. Thay leaves at best two months for them to proto and test this product.
